Pauli Wanderer writes in Boulder, Colorado, and in an old house near Gills Rock, Wisconsin, where she can still hear an occasional ferry whistle. A former columnist and contributing editor for Country Home magazine, she has also published three novels for young adults. This book, originally published in 1985, was her homage to Door County.

In her new introduction, she urges all lovers of the Peninsula to help restore the fast-eroding balance between development and nature.
