George Peck is most often remembered for his Peck's Bad Boy books, but his smash hit on the lecture circuit was How Private Geo. W. Peck Put Down the Rebellion, a humorous view of the life of a Union cavalryman during the Civil War. Peck was well-known as a raconteur and lecturer before becoming governor of Wisconsin in 1891.
