A Comprehensive History of the Door Peninsula. Volume One From the beginning to 1930.
Three quarters of a century have passed since the last comprehensive history of the Door Peninsula was published. Hjalmar Rued Holand wrote such a book in 1917. Since then the Door Peninsula and the rest of the world, for that matter, has changed so much with it's abundance of wars, villains, scientific miracles and remapping of the earth that in all probability it would be unrecognizable to Mr. Holand were he to magically reappear today. It is apparent that the writing of a new history of the Peninsula is appropriate and timely.
In the intervening years since 1917, uncounted short pieces have been written about many different segments of the history of Door County, including Holand's Old Peninsula Days (1925). However, there has been a long standing need to put all of these important bits and pieces of information into a single work: more than recounting of events, and one that will show how these occurrences were related one to the other and why they came about at all.
