In the 1920s a group of investors devised a plan to develop Chambers Island as an exclusive vacation destination. This is a reproduction of the map of their planned development of the island. The original map was included as part of a prospectus for potential buyers.
Details include an 18-hole golf course and clubhouse, a recreational area with polo field and baseball diamonds, and a shopping district surrounding the new marina to be built at the north end of the island.
The stock market crash of 1929 ultimately put an end to the plan.
